Iconic Miami Hotels | The Betsy Hotel – South Beach | March 26, 2015

With its latest revamp of a $40 million makeover, the Betsy Hotel reopened its doors in 2009 to much buzz. Originally built in 1940 by the renowned and acclaimed Art Deco architect, Murray Dixon, the Betsy shines out on South Beach's Ocean Drive as a one of a kind representation of the once prevalent Floridian Georgian architectural design. Similarly to the Biltmore Hotel in Miami, it's likewise inscribed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

Soon after newly opening its doors, it was renamed the  Betsy Ross, as a tribute America's most famous flagmaker -- the Betsy hosted U.S. troops during World War II. And in 1972, Gloria Steinem chose the Betsy to be her National Women's Political Caucus headquarters during the Democratic convention.
