Located off Biscayne Boulevard and close to the American Airlines Arena, stands the Freedom Tower, which resides on the eastern side of downtown Miami, near to the waterfront, where its Mediterranean Revival style architecture openly shines and echoes the song of times past. Earmarked as a US National Historic Landmark in 2008, the tower was built in the mid-1920s originally intended to serve as the head office for the Miami News, which afterwards vacated the premises in 1957. Subsequently, In the sixties, the federal government was based here, using the offices to process immigration requests, and from the seventies onwards, the ownership has changed hands numerous times, with the tower originally being privately owned, and subsequently gifted to Dade College. The design of the tower was Inspired by the Giralda Bell Tower in Seville, the yellow and white Freedom Tower appears at its best when viewed from afar.
