Three people had to be rescued from an airboat after it became stranded the thick of the Florida Everglades while taking an Everglades tour just today, Sunday afternoon.
A Broward Sheriff's rescue helicopter was scrambled a search and rescue mission after having received a distressed call for assistance. The rescue mission was described as trying to find a needle in a haystack. Rescuers flew multiple passengers simultaneously to Interstate 75 where eastbound traffic on Alligator Alley near mile marker 45 was temporarily shut down.
The rescue incident was a result of low water levels due to above average arid and dry environmental conditions.
